Being a New Parent: Routines

Chris Nixon | 31 January, 2008

The End of a Long DayOne of the things that everybody asks me as a new parent is, “Has she settled into a routine yet?”

The answer is nearly always, “Yes! It’s brilliant!” And yet I am always wrong.

Babies settle into a routine for about three days, then everything changes. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just something you have to be aware of. Never be smug about those few nights of only getting up once in the night. It will change, and if you aren’t expecting it, it will bite you on the arse.

Make the most of those few days when your new baby is particularly settled. Take advantage of the rest, because next week you’ll need those extra resourses when he or she’s unsettled again.

2008 Challenge #4: If You Want Communication

Chris Nixon | 27 January, 2008

If You Want Communication

This is the Balgownie mobile (cell) phone transmitter, a short walk from my house. I drive past it every day, but this is the first time I’ve thought to turn my lens towards it.

Long Nights

Chris Nixon |

I’ve had a couple of long nights over the weekend. Feeding through the night has taken it’s toll on daytime activities, but I plan to get out of the house for an hour today to get my 2008 Community Challenge photograph today. I know it’s meant to be a planned shot, but I have no inspiration, so fresh air and a little light excercise will have to inspire me.

Where Does Time Go?

Chris Nixon | 25 January, 2008

The problem is not that I don’t have time to write a proper blog post, it’s that I don’t have time to think about something interesting to write. At most, I am getting an hour to kill each day and (no offence), I’d rather spend that precious time with the wife.

So what happens with the blog?

I’m not dropping it. I find it a good record for me about life, and some others seem to appreciate it too. My idea is to make my posts shorter and snappier, rarely thought out and often misplaced or stupid. Think Twitter+, but badly formatted.

I’ll also keep posting my photographs too.

As time passes, and The Frog starts to sleep through night, longer posts will return.

2008 Challenge #3: Mr. Bear

Mindless grafitti can blight areas of of our towns and cities, but sometimes it’s so lame it makes me chuckle. This is a bus stop I run past every day. I think it’s right up there with the “Get Lost” spray painted near-by. These kids need to get a bit more creative.

2008 Challenge #2: Sky Pilot

A little delayed. Aberdeen is a harbour city, and this is the new building that makes sure all the ships get in and out of the harbour safely. It sits at the end of the beach, and at the mouth of the harbour, dominating the skyline.

Our Holly: Enquisitive

Enquisitive

Wow! I’ve just realised that I haven’t updated my blog in a few weeks. Since Holly was born on Christmas Eve it has been a rollercoaster of feeding (her), sleeping (her), losing weight (us), putting on weight (her). When I write it down it sounds like a nightmare, but it has been brilliant so far.

I am back at work, and still feel a bit like I am abandoning the girls every day as I leave the house, but it makes getting home so much better.

I’m sure there will be loads more updates as Holly settles into a pattern of sleeping and eating. Until then, posts may be a wee bit few and far between.
