The Brig o’ Balgownie has been closed to traffic for a good few years. The locals can sometimes be a bit ‘nippy’ about photographers. I think they want to keep it a secret.

2008 Challenge #14: We were treated to some April snow showers. Nothing more than a couple of inches, but still fun. There has definitely been less snow in Aberdeen over the last few years. I wonder if that is part of global warming…or just one of those things.

We took a family outing to Duthie Park and the David Welch Winter Gardens recently. The winter gardens are a brilliant resource to the city. Aberdeen is not best known for it’s beautiful weather, and when the rain pours, this is a great place to take the family.

The temperate house gives you the chance to experience different plants and climates under a glass roof.

It’s also a brilliant place to take the camera. Plants and flowers from around the world are on display…and the layout means you can get close-up to everything. My 50mm lens got a real work out…and with the wee one strapped to my chest…so did my back.

2008 Challenge #6: Footdee (pronounced Fittie) is a small fishing village beside the harbour in Aberdeen where my mother lives. They hang their sheets on the line in a special way so they won’t blow away.

Since March 2006, Smoking has been banned in all work places. While a lot of people have given up the habit, you’ll still find emergency exits with people just having a “quick fag break” in all weathers.

This is the Balgownie mobile (cell) phone transmitter, a short walk from my house. I drive past it every day, but this is the first time I’ve thought to turn my lens towards it.

I’ve had a couple of long nights over the weekend. Feeding through the night has taken it’s toll on daytime activities, but I plan to get out of the house for an hour today to get my 2008 Community Challenge photograph today. I know it’s meant to be a planned shot, but I have no inspiration, so fresh air and a little light excercise will have to inspire me.
